New Injury Reports
Breaking News (August 23rd Updates)
Dez Bryant suffered a concussion in practice today, and will not be available in Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. However Dez did take it to Twitter to assure Cowboys Nation that he is okay and this is a minor injury. #x
Ezekiel Elliott will make his Dallas Cowboys debut against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
Ezekiel Elliott (Hamstring)
Ezekiel Elliott suffered his first career NFL injury in practice on Tuesday when he tweaked his right hamstring. Elliott is considered to be “day to day” and it seems he is questionable going into preseason week 1 against the second most talented offensive rookie, Los Angeles Ram quarterback Jared Goff.
Benson Mayowa (Knee)
Benson Mayowa injured his knee in minicamp and needed to undergo a minor arthroscopic left knee surgery which went successful. Considering he was supposed to be ready for training camp, this seems to be a delayed recovery and he has been placed on the physically unable to perform list. It is not known when he will have fully recovered.
Kellen Moore (Ankle)
Kellen Moore suffered a broken left ankle on Tuesday and is expected to miss three to four months. In my opinion, this is a blessing in disguise because of all the repetition Dak Prescott will be getting, especially on Tony Romo’s day off with the ones.
Damien Wilson (Eye)
Damien Wilson suffered a non-football related injury in a paintball incident and will be sidelined for “a couple of weeks”.
James Hanna (Knee)
Opening training camp, James Hanna was the biggest surprise player to land on the physically unable to perform list due to a precautionary approach to knee soreness.
Devin Street (Ankle)
Devin Street left practice Thursday with what appears to be a rolled ankle. This does not help his case on making the 53 man roster as this year he is in competition with undrafted free agents Chris Brown and Andy Jones.
Andrew Gachkar (Thumb)
Andrew Gachar is out three to four weeks with a fractured thumb that requires surgery.
Rolando McClain (Suspension)
Rolando McClain is suspended without pay for the first 10 games of the regular season due to a violation of the NFL’s policy against substance abuse. That substance has been revealed to be purple drank. This is a very disappointing and it would not be surprising to see a post suspension cut in the future.
Pre-existing Injury Reports
Darren McFadden (Elbow)
Darren McFadden broke his elbow in a non football related fall in which he fell at his home. There were several reports that he was trying to catch his phone which had fallen, but he has denied those because they are false. As of now, he is questionable for week 1.
Jaylon Smith (Knee)
Jaylon Smith tore his left ACL and LCL in a brutal injury in the 2015 Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. The main issue with his knee injury was the damage was so deep that it stretched far enough to put his nerve to rest, and for him to become healthy again that nerve needs to fire back. There is no telling when he will be back on the field, but his surgent who performed the surgery just about immediately following the injury was the Dallas Cowboys head physician Dr. Daniel Cooper. Therefore, there is a reason that the Dallas Cowboys drafted him and there is much belief through the organization that he will play at some point this season.
Lance Dunbar (Knee)
Lance Dunbar tore his left ACL, and partially tore his left MCL on a gruesome kickoff return injury on October 4th, 2015 against the New Orleans Saints. There were also reports that he tore his left patellar tendon as well. Dunbar had his patellar tendon repaired in October and his ACL separately reconstructed in December. This is a lot for a young back to overcome, but he is still very young and he rehab has reportedly went slow, but very well so a bounce back season is very possible.
Gavin Escobar (Achilles)
Gavin Escobar tore his right Achilles’ tendon in week 15 of the 2015 season against the New York Jets. Escobar is on track to start week 1 of the 2016 season against the New York Giants.
Maliek Collins (Foot)
Maliek Collins broke his right foot in minicamp making a “simple cut” and is questionable for week 1 right now. With all the commotion going on with the defensive line right now that would be nice to have him suiting up. Hopefully, he is able to recover cleanly from this unfortunate “freak incident” and get back out on the field soon.
Demarcus Lawrence (Suspension)
Demarcus Lawrence is suspended without pay for the first 4 games of the regular season. He has appealed the suspension, but it was denied. This leaves a gap on the left side of the defensive line. On a positive note, Lawrence has been very apologetic about it and has vowed to make better decisions in the future.
Randy Gregory (Suspension)
Randy Gregory is suspended for 10 games due to another drug policy violation. This creates a bigger void in the defensive line and hopefully somebody (such as David Irving) steps up in these difficult times.
