Houston, Texas – Congratulations to 4th round draft pick turned NFL superstar, Dak Prescott, on winning NFL Pepsi Rookie of the Year. The news was broken earlier today from Pepsi and the NFL.
Prescott along with fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott lead the Cowboys to a franchise record 13 wins and had a passer rating of 104.9 which was good for third in the NFL behind Matt Ryan and Tom Brady. He’s the first rookie and only the second player in NFL history (Brady) to throw for at least 3,500 yards with fewer than five interceptions in a season. His rookie season is in my opinion, the best a quarterback has ever had (higher QBR from rookie QB) as well as the best “story season” the NFL has witnessed. His historic season, as well as Elliott’s, will without question go down alongside Dallas Cowboy greats like Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett, Bob Hayes, and Calvin Hill.
“It’s an honor. It’s a privilege,” Prescott said on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “It’s so humbling, especially just the great rookie class we had this year.”
The 2016-2017 NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year is set to be announced tomorrow night (February 4th) at the NFL Honors. Look for Ezekiel Elliott to take home the other major rookie award, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. However, Prescott can potentially win both, which would mean himself and Elliott would split all 4 of the eligible Rookie of the Year Awards (Elliott winning Pro Football Writer’s and Sporting News)
